What it is
Hotwifing is a form of consensual non-monogamy where a woman in a committed relationship has sexual experiences with others, and her partner is on board, often excited by it. Unlike swinging, it usually goes one way: she plays, he doesn’t.
Variations
- Fantasy only. Talk, dirty talk and role-play, with no one else involved.
- She plays, he hears about it. He’s not there but gets the story afterwards.
- He watches. He’s present, from the next room to the same bed.
- Ongoing partner. A regular “bull” or friend rather than one-off dates.
Why it appeals
For her, it can be about being desired, exploring freely and feeling trusted. For him, the appeal ranges from pride (“look who’s mine”) to voyeurism to the rush of reconnecting afterwards. Many couples describe the time after a date as the hottest part.
How to bring it up
Start as a fantasy. Share it during sex or in a relaxed moment and watch the reaction. Agree that talking about it doesn’t commit anyone to doing it.
Ground rules
- Agree on what’s in and out before any date, and stick to it on the night.
- Sexual health: testing, protection and disclosure, agreed in advance.
- Have a check-in plan for the night and a debrief the next day.
- Either partner can call it off at any point, no questions asked.
