Bringing up a new dynamic is nerve-racking because it can sound like a complaint about the old one. It isn’t. Here’s a way in that keeps it light.
Pick the right moment
Not in the middle of an argument, and not right after sex when one of you is half asleep. A walk, a long drive or a lazy morning works well.
Start with a feeling, not a rule
Try: “I’ve noticed how much I love it when you take charge. Can we talk about doing more of that?” It’s specific, it’s a compliment and it leaves room for her to shape what comes next.
Make it small
Suggest a one-week experiment. She picks one area to lead on, like weekend plans, and you check in on Sunday.
Expect questions
She might ask whether you’re unhappy, or whether this is about sex. Answer honestly. It’s fine if it’s both.
Agree on how to pause
Before you start, agree that either of you can say “let’s pause this” with no hard feelings. That safety net makes it much easier to say yes.
